Royal event at Venue Cymru , Llandudno - a good day was had by all

Llandudno was buzzing yesterday with thousands of people lining the promenade and circulating within Venue Cymru. They were all there to support Her Majesty The Queen, HRH Duke of Edinburgh and Mr Trefor Jones, Lord Lieutenant of Clwyd in celebrating volunteering throughout the former County of Clwyd ( Conwy, Denbighshire, Flintshire and Wrexham). In excess of 400 volunteers attended the ceremony and 120 were personally presented to the Queen and HRH Duke of Edinburgh. At the event Llandudno Town Band were in fine spirits supported by the Llandudno Victoriana Extravaganza which provides a peek into years gone by. In the Arena and to an audience of hundreds and the Royal party the following gave a fine display of their talents :
Ysgol Bryn Elian, Ysgol Glanwydden, Llandudno Town Band, Ensemble Cymru and Llandudno Youth Music Theatre.
I could see around the room that the audience were impressed by the musical talent on display and whilst everyone had their preferences there is no doubt that they performed to a high standard - so watch out X Factor and Britain's Got Talent you have strong competition from North Wales.

To say the volunteers were thrilled is an understatement if the comments I had at the end of the day was anything to go by. They thoroughly enjoyed the occasion . It was an indeed an honour for the volunteers to be acknowledged in such a public way by the Queen and the Duke and I am sure they will cherish the memories of the day for many years to come. It was a real joy to see and hear the volunteers explain to both the Queen and HRH Duke of Edinburgh the organisations they represent and the work they do and how they actually do make a difference within their community to the lives of the young and old alike.

A few of the individuals came up to me at the end of the day and asked whether DVSC would be writing to the Queen and HRH Duke of Edinburgh to thank them for taking time out of their busy schedules to meet and talk to so many volunteers and to look forward to another visit. I will write that letter.
