I have just received a copy of a letter today written by the First Minister in which he explains the intentions of WAG from 1st April 2011. It is positive news in that WAG are not intending to transfer the money to Rate Support Grant but rather to be prescriptive in the way money is to be spent next year and the focus very clearly is on one of the strategic priorities of WAG - Child Poverty. Further details will be issued shortly but meanwhile if you would like to see the letter please let me know and I will email you.
Meanwhile I advise groups all the time not to rely on just one source of funding as anything can happen and so for those organisations currently receiving Cymorth I ask this question - Do you have a plan B in case the amount of Cymorth money reduces significantly or worse still the criteria for the grant fund excludes your organisation from applying. If you don't have a plan B why not talk to DVSC today so that we can help you find alternative sources of money because it is never too early to start making applications as please remember most funders will take 6-9 months to come to a decision on your application particularly when you are asking for a lot of money £100,000 + over 3 years
